THE 36TH JAPAN CATHOLIC FILM AWARD GOES TO “DEATH OF A JAPANESE SALESMAN”

SIGNIS JAPAN has announced that they have chosen “Death of a Japanese Salesman” (Japanese title: Ending Note) as the 36th Japan Catholic Film Award winner.  The film was shot and edited by Ms. Mami Sunada whose father had been sentensed cancer and he made his own preparation writing down his own ending-note.  The first item in his to-do list was to visit the priest and the 9th was to get baptized.  And the 10th and the last item was ……….

The father was a very energetic salesman in a Japanese trading firm.  He boasted that the key of the business was preparation.  So he tried his best in preparation to cope with his last and biggest adventure.

The film is not so sentimental and some parts were narrated by the directress herself in place of her father.  You could feel the strong family bond.  How they loved each other.  You may even see the glimpse of a Japanese soul mostly in peaceful determination.
